Each year the ACT Government recognises people and organisations who have contributed to the ACT community for fifty years or more. Canberra Gold celebrates individuals and community groups who enrich Canberra through their contribution to sport, culture and community involvement.

During the centenary year special medallions will also be given to everyone who is turning 100 years old in 2013, and all those who are already 100 years or more. All babies born on 12 March 2013 will also receive a Centenary Medallion.

The Canberra Museum and Gallery has a special exhibition focusing on the Canberra Gold, 2 February to 19 May.

Canberra Gold Award recipients taking part in the 2013 exhibition are Petronella Wensing, Dick (Walter) Redman, Janette James, Ed (Edwin) Carnall,  Canberra Mothercraft Society and Canberra City Band.
