Robyn Archer joins Centenary
Wednesday, 8 July, 2009In a major step forward for the centenary project, Ms Robyn Archer AO has been announced as the Centenary of Canberra Creative Director. Ms Archer is a singer, writer, director, artistic director and public advocate of the Arts.
Ms Archer possesses extensive experience as a festival curator and has recently finished directing Melbourne's Light in Winter festival in Federation Square. In previous roles Ms Archer has overseen the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the national Festival of Australian Theatre.
Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said Ms Archer's appointment was a significant coup for Canberra and she brought valuable experience planning festivals to the Centenary of Canberra project.
"I welcome Ms Archer to Canberra and look forward to working with her to plan and deliver a memorable centenary celebration showcasing all of Canberra's unique attributes," he said.
Ms Archer said she relished the challenges and opportunities offered by the Centenary of Canberra project over the next four years.
"Our national capital is unique in the quality of its splendid national institutions, but through recent visits to Canberra I feel the city itself is primed for a cultural renaissance and the centenary is the perfect opportunity to encourage and enable it," Ms Archer said.
