SCOPING WORK BEGINS FOR CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

Preparations for Canberra’s Centenary in 2013 gear up this weekend, when the Government advertises nationally for consultants to scope significant projects for the birthday year.

“Advertisements will appear in the tender section of tomorrow’s Canberra Times, Weekend Australian, The Age, Sydney Morning Herald and Courier Mail newspapers calling for companies or consortia with relevant skills and experience to express their interest in this exciting project,” Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said today.

“We have reached a particularly important phase in our preparations and over the course of 2008 will explore a number of priority projects and associated costs.

“Extensive community consultation has given us an excellent base to work from. Many ambitious projects were put forward and it is now time to examine these in detail and begin the real work of building an exciting program of celebrations, activities and projects.”

Mr Stanhope said the first phase of the procurement activity would be to test the market nationally to gauge the skills and experience of the consultancy sector.

“Australia boasts great expertise in areas such as project management, feasibility and scoping studies, and event management. We want to tap into this wealth of knowledge to help produce a truly memorable year of celebrations and leave a lasting legacy for the ACT,” he said.

Expressions of interest are due by 7 February 2008. Further information will be available from the Procurement Solutions website at www.procurement.act.gov.au following the weekend advertisements.
