Eight community projects to celebrate the Centenary
Monday, 19 December, 2011Chief Minister Katy Gallagher announced the first recipients of the Community Centenary Initiative Fund which supports community-driven projects and events that enhance the program of activities being developed for 2013.
"Canberra's 2013 Centenary celebrations are taking shape, with eight projects receiving approval for funding from the Community Centenary Initiative Fund," the Chief Minister said.
"$191,800 of the $1 million fund has been allocated in this first round of funding with the range of funded projects complementing the broader program being planned by Creative Director RobynArcher AO.
"Projects such as the National Trusts' Centenary of Canberra Rally, from Jervis Bay to Canberra, and the Morris 100 Canberra car rally and tour of Battle of the Sites towns, will mobilise ‘wheeled' enthusiasts. They'll provide an opportunity to explore the wider ACT boundaries and places which themselves were once considered as potential locations for the new Australian capital.
"The Tuggeranong Community Arts Incorporated's plans for Lakeside, a community sculpture project, and Kulture Break's Dance Nation will ensure that broader demographics of place and age within the ACT will contribute to the celebration of the Centenary. Another project involves archiving Artsound FM's recordings.
"There is still funding available and I urge individuals, community sporting and arts/cultural organisations and service clubs to consider how they might mark this significant milestone in Canberra's history and to apply to the fund," Ms Gallagher said.
