Show Us Your Limits competition closing soon

Tuesday, 10 August, 2010

Photographers, filmmakers and other digital artists have just three weeks to submit their Centenary of Canberra Show Us Your Limits entry before the competition closes at 4.00pm on the 31st of August 2010.

Show Us Your Limits is a photographic, film and digital media competition celebrating 100 years since the start of the survey of the ACT border.

Competition entries are sought that explore the gruelling history of the border survey, and show us how we now explore the border regions of the ACT.

“Not many people stop to think how or why Canberra’s border came to be. The Show Us Your Limits competition highlights just how challenging and arduous the work must have been 100 years ago, to determine the precise borders for our nation’s capital,” Centenary of Canberra Community Engagement Officer Mr Dan Watters said.

“It was a tough and very physical process to mark the border with timber posts, carvings in reference trees, and lockspits and I hope Canberrans enjoy visiting the border a little more than the surveyors did a century ago.

“I’m pleased to see some entries coming in from community groups who engage in activities around the border regions. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are regularly out and about on the ACT border, such as sport, adventure and recreation groups, to showcase and promote what they do to the broader community,” Mr Watters said.

The competition offers prizes in four categories, with the winners of the photography, film, and digital media categories each receiving a $500 prepaid visa card and the winner of the under 18 years open media category receiving a $250 prepaid visa card.

Both amateur and professional are encouraged to enter. Entry forms and further information on the competition are available from the www.canberra100.com.au.
