2008
- February – Four designs for the Major Canberra Artwork on Northbourne Avenue (City Hill) are shortlisted. The development of this iconic piece coincides with the 100th anniversary of Yass-Canberra’s selection as the site for the nation’s new capital in 1908.
- February - Centenary of Canberra Task Force meets
- March – Detailed scoping work will commence in 2008 and is expected to take up to 18 months to complete.
- An ACT Government Interdepartmental Committee is formed to connect all government agencies and ensure a coordinated approach to the centenary program.
- Negotiations continue between the ACT and Commonwealth Governments
2007
- Eleven Interim Working Groups further develop projects in the core areas of:
- Major events
- Legacy projects
- Community celebrations
- Arts and culture
- Sport and recreation
- Heritage and history
- Environment
- Education
- Meetings and conferences
- Publications and memorabilia
- Promotions
- Negotiations continue between the ACT and Commonwealth Governments
- Through advertisements in local and national press Expressions of Interest are sought from suitable professionals in the private sector interested in further scoping Centenary projects.
2006
- Jan – February – More than 1600 ideas and suggestions were assessed against a set of criteria relating to feasibility, likely impact and how suggestions aligned with the goals of the Centenary. 160 ideas and suggestions were selected for further development.
- March - The ACT Chief Minister representing the Centenary of Canberra Task Force launched the Centenary of Canberra Task Force Blueprint and Report and Interim Strategy.
- March – Long time Canberra resident and former Governor-General Sir William Deane was appointed the Patron of the Canberra Centenary.
2005
- September - Chief Minister Jon Stanhope and all former Chief Ministers Gary Humphries, Kate Carnell, Trevor Kaine and Rosemary Follett meet as the Centenary of Canberra Task Force.
- October - The Task Force launches a two month intensive consultation period which included meetings, discussion groups, workshops and a large public forum. The Canberra community could also participate in an ideas and logo competition.
2004
- Chief Minister Jon Stanhope MLA and Prime Minister John Howard agree that their governments would work together to coordinate centenary celebrations that were worthy of the national capital.
